Costly Mistakes To Avoid During Bed Bug Elimination In The Home

Creepy little bloodsuckers that come out while you sleep, bed bugs are enough to make even the soundest sleeper lose a few winks at night. If you suspect that you are sharing your bed with a few unwelcome critters, there is no doubt you want to kick them out as soon as possible. You may toss out your mattress, throw out all signs of plush animals, and may even invest in new pillows. While all of this can help, the frenzy to get these biting bugs out of your home can actually get you in more trouble. Here are a few costly mistakes you should avoid during bed bug elimination in your home.

Dragging the Laundry Through the House

By the time you have dragged blankets, bedskirts, curtains, and clothes through the house, if you did not have bed bugs scattered across the home before, you probably do now. Instead of hitting panic mode and lugging everything out of the space into the laundry room by hand or open laundry basket, bag everything in large trash bags right in the room where the bugs were discovered and secure the bags tightly. Pack them out as they are ready to be washed, one at a time.

Assuming That If You Cannot See Them, They Must Not be There

As you are cleaning out your bedroom, you spot that neatly folded basket of laundry you forgot to put away last week. It smells fresh, looks clean, and with as much laundry as you have been doing to get rid of bugs on bedding and pillows, the last thing you want is another load. Stop! Do not put those cloths back in your dresser drawer because they look like there is nothing on them. Just because you cannot see a bed bug, it does not mean that it is not there. Bed bugs are known to burrow down in clothing in creases and crevices where you likely will not see them. Never assume anything in a room infested with bed bugs is free and clear.

Taking a DIY Approach

You can find tips all day long about how to rid your home of bed bugs online. It is easy to assume that this must be something you can handle on your own. Think of it this way, if bed bugs were that easy to get rid of, why would hotels spend obscene amounts every year to pay for professional treatments? The fact is, bed bugs are extremely hard to eliminate without an exterminator. Most home remedies will not work, including rubbing alcohol, boric acid, and even the strangely recommended hairspray. If you got creepy crawlers sharing your sleeping space, do yourself a favor and call a professional exterminator for help.

Bed bugs are an incredibly difficult thing to eliminate once they have turned up in your home. Seemingly small mistakes can lead to a whole-house infestation if you are not careful. For more information, contact Quality Exterminators Of Georgia Inc. or a similar company.
