Have you spotted a few roaches crawling around in your home? One of the easiest ways to tell if you're dealing with an infestation is to see more than one roach crawling around in your home. Having roaches in the home isn't ideal because they can bite you, contaminate your food, and even trigger your allergies. Here are a few important steps to follow if you're concerned about a possible roach infestation.

Start Looking for Signs

Aside from spotting live roaches crawling around, there are other signs you should be aware of when you're trying to figure out if you have a roach problem on your hands. Roaches leave plenty of fecal matter behind. Unfortunately, most people don't realize what they're looking at is roach feces because it looks a lot like ground black pepper. If you're spotting what appears to be random black pepper flakes throughout the home, it's probably feces left behind from the roaches.

Clean the Home

Roaches are attracted to all different kinds of food, and they like to linger in moist areas. If you've got open bags or containers of food in cabinets, you should purchase sealed containers for all those items. Roaches can and will work their way into open bags of chips and food containers, so you don't want to leave anything open for them to get into. Aside from getting containers with tight lids for different food items, make sure you're wiping down all surfaces, especially if you have children who tend to leave food behind on the kitchen table. Consider doing a full cleaning spree: remove any clutter, vacuum floors, and clean everything in the home to eliminate many hiding places and food sources for the roaches.

Speak To an Exterminator

If you're still seeing roaches after you've cleaned everything and eliminated a lot of the clutter in your home, speak to an exterminator about the problem. The roaches could be getting into your home through cracks that may need to be sealed. Aside from sealing those cracks, a pest control specialist can use high-quality insecticide sprays and gels to quickly kill the roaches you're dealing with in your home.

If you're seeing several roaches, you need to find out if you have an infestation on your hands. Roaches can cause numerous problems because they may contaminate food and trigger your allergies. Some roaches even bite humans! If you've spotted some in the home and you don't want the problem to get any worse, start a cleaning spree to eliminate any food sources and then talk to an exterminator about some of the different pest control methods you can use to deal with the current infestation and prevent future ones.
