Tips for Keeping Bed Bugs from Public Places Out of Your Home

Inside your home, you may already take measures to help keep bed bugs from becoming a problem. However, you are not in control of what happens in public places, such as stores or movie theaters. To keep bed bugs from these public locations out of your home, use the following tips whenever you visit them.

Sun Treat Furniture Before Bringing it Inside

Whether you buy new or used furniture, there is always a chance that they may carry bed bugs. Since people come in contact with new furniture, they may have bed bugs on them that jump to the furniture. And, since you never quite know for sure where used furniture came from, they could be well-hidden in the nooks and crannies.

Even if you do not find any signs of bed bugs, you should always sun treat any furniture before you bring it inside for the first time. This treatment is done by wrapping the furniture in thick plastic and setting it outside in the sun for most of the day. The intense heat of the sun inside the plastic should kill any bed bugs inside.

Leave Your Purse at Home When Going to the Movies

Unfortunately, bed bugs have become a problem in movie theaters. News reports of the bugs biting moviegoers and hitching a ride home with them have started popping up in recent years.

Since theaters are dark and have cushioned seats, they make an ideal home for the bugs. And, since bed bugs prefer to feast on blood when people are relaxed, such as when they are watching a movie, they have a steady food supply as well.

Before you go into the movie theater, make sure you leave your purse or any bags at home. Bed bugs can easily hide in these bags, only to come out later that night while you are in bed.

Also, when you first arrive, have a small flashlight that you can use to check the seats to see if you find any signs of the bugs. You may also want to check yourself and companions when you go into your house or even remove your clothes before entering.

Even if you take every possible precaution, you may still end up with bed bugs in your house. If so, contact a pest control company that offers bed bug removal services to make an appointment for them to assess your home and discuss your options for getting rid of your nasty, unwelcomed guests.
